An inclusive design tool: cards for humanity
AIM
Inspire designers to consider a wider range of needs during the design process to make services and products easier for everyone to use.
Impact
These cards are now being used across Idean studios globally and are available for anyone to download.
Here are some suggested ways to use the cards:
Run initial propositions through the various scenarios
Run service blueprints through the various scenarios
Use the cards within workshops to expand thoughts around target user groups
This game can be used at many stages throughout the design process, its best to use it from early ideation to have maximum impact though.
Process
Whilst working with Idean I focused on creating an inclusive mindset and enabling a further inclusive design practice across the studios. Cards for Humanity was created to help make it easier for designers to create inclusive products and services.
I worked together with Jordan Fisher and many other across the Idean London studio to create Cards For Humanity. We knew that the key to creating a well used tool would be to ensure it was fun, easy and enjoyable.
Creating the cards
First we created the red scenario cards ensuring that they included a mix of situational and permanent impairments and disabilities, the cards are not however an exhaustive list . We then created each of the design considerations for the back of the cards and gave more character to each persona by creating personality traits.
