Speaking
I am a regular contributor and speaker at conferences, workshops and networking events both in the UK and abroad.
Service Lab - Organiser and speaker
I help organise Service Lab, a bi-monthly event for service designers and the service design curious.
London Accessibility Meetup - February 2019
The business case for inclusive design: Inclusive design is still seen as an add-on; a nice to have, something “we’ll get around to once we’ve finished the build”. It’s last on the list for development must-dos, and the first to go when the budget bites. And yet designing for inclusivity means designing for everyone.
This talk explored the business case for embedding inclusive design into all products and services, outlining the benefits and arguments for designing for all.
Service Design in Government - March 2018
I was asked to talk about embedding design at Service Design in Government in Edinburgh.
This session focused on embedding design in local government to create a more user-focused mindset across an organisation. I focused on how I approach building capacity within a new team, while solving problems at the same time.
Global Goals Jam, Bogota, 2017
As part of the Snook team I was invited to take part as a speaker in the Global Goals Jam to showcase the service design methodology. This inspiring jam is a worldwide two-day event focused on short design sprints that aim to enable creative teams of designers, citizens, jammers, and developers from local communities to work together creating design interventions.
Design 4 Future, Athens, 2016
I ran a workshop in collaboration with Design4Future for Snook in Athens. Open to anyone interested in service design, the aim was to introduce service design by displaying some of the key methodologies and tools used in the industry. It was a hands-on experience allowing participants to use the tools provided, building confidence in using a service design approach in everyday life.
Kingston Alumni event, London, 2016
I was part of a facilitated industry-led panel of 6-8 people, chaired by Andrew Haslam, Head of Graphic Design at Kingston University. This event enabled Kingston students to learn more about design practices.
Design for Disability
I spoke at an event focused on designing for disability. This talk showcased Ergo - a service that creates personally ergonomic tools that can then be further customised by the user. This talk was co presented by Tom Bennett who was part of the Ergo project team.
